First Samuel

The genre of this book is a historical narrative. The theme of this is; to tell the history of how the Israelites came from the rule of judges to kings. It sets the stage for the sovereign and eternal king of the whole world Jesus the final heir to David throne. It continues to show how God kept his convent with Israel. The key characters and events are as follows. A barren women prays for a child and promises to give him to God if answers her prayer. God answer her prayer, she gives birth to a son. She keeps her vow. She takes Samuel to the temple on his second birthday to live and serve at the temple. God show favor on Samuel and he becomes a great priest and prophet. Later in the narrative, the philistines steal the Ark of the Covenant. God send judgment on them and they return the ark. Samuel makes it known that God wants victory over the Philistines and repentance form the people of Israel. Samuel tells them by wanting a king like other nations Israel is directly rejection Gods leadership. Under the leadership of God and warning to the Israelites, what a king could mean for Israel .Samuel anoints Saul as king. Saul does a good job as king at first. Then he starts to disobey God. As a result of Saul’s rebellion God allows Saul and his son to die. This opens a place for a Sheppard named David to become king. King David is not perfect but God calls him a man after his own heart. God keep his promise to David that his throne would be secure forever. Through the linage of David the final heir Jesus Christ became the sovereign perfect and eternal king of the entire world. Thus God kept his convent with Israel despite their many failings.

Second book of Samuel

The genre of this book is a historical narrative that includes a hymn or psalm. The theme of this book is; to chronicle King David reign. It also chronicles how Gods convent promises were carried out despite the many failings of human kind. This is also a book that is a example of how sin can destroy a very blessed life. The main character and events in the narrative are as follows. Before David could become king he had to deal with King Saul’s jealousy and trying to kill him. David trusted God promises and obeyed God. Because of his obedience God saw him through many trials and tribulations in this book. God established David as a great king and leader. At times David did things that greatly displeased God including adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah. Because of the failures David’s family fell apart and he lost his son to murder. The greatest part of this book is that David repented and was forgiven by God. Even after the death of his son politics, violence, failures and trails David sings a hymn of thanksgiving to God near the end of the
