The Genre of this book is a book of wisdom with poetic dialogues. The theme of this book is That God requires are love and praise in all circumstances in life to include the bad. God has power over what Satan can and cannot do. That Satan cannot bring harm to us without the permission of God. That it is beyond man to understand all the suffering in this world, and that all suffering is not brought on by sin. That God will punish the wicked it’s not up to mankind. That at times suffering is used by God to teach, purify, and test mankind. That one must remain faithful to God in all life’s circumstances. The key characters and events in this story are as follow. Satan goes to God and says to him your faithful, loyal servant Job is only faithful to you because of all that he was given. Job is a very wealthy man with a large family, servants and many friends. God gives Satan permission to test Job but gives him boundaries. Satan takes away everything from job except his very life. He loses his wealth, health, family and more. Job refuses to curse God and even praises him saying should I not only accept the good things from the hand of God. Satan lost his challenge of Job righteousness. Then we have a turn in the plot and Jobs friends come to console him. When Job finally complains, they say that the suffering is due to sin in his life. He denies this but continues to praise God. His friend abandons him, because they feel he is to self –righteous. Then God appears to Job and instead hearing Job case he demands answer of Job of the very question he seeks. Job tells God he has no right to question God and repents. God reaffirms Jobs righteousness and restores Job previous life with even greater blessing. By Job changing his perspective on his circumstances he changed his life. This book is to teach the reader to praise God in all life circumstances and except God sovereign goodness and wisdom. That the reason for man suffering is not always clear but it can bring us closer to God.
