Amos

The Genre of this book is prophetic. The primary theme of this book is at times God intervenes in history to advance his overall agenda. That God cares deeply about the weak and powerless. That all mankind bears Gods image. That he will not tolerate the abuse of the poor. That material prosperity and outward appearances is not necessarily a sign of God blessing. That God wants people of substance, character and integrity. Just showing up and going through the motions of worship will not be tolerated. That a life of true worship has outward signs of good works, change and caring for you fellow man. That God commands us to have ethical behavior towards others. That he cares about all mankind and will not tolerate his children hurting each other. If his laws are not obeyed you will be punished. If you follow his laws you will be deeply blessed. God sends Amos to abash the people for their self indulgence, idolatry, corrupt leadership, abuse of the poor, pagan worship, and greed. That Amos preaches to the people so they may hear the roar of God; he calls for righteous, right worship and social reasonability. That God will not tolerate the Israel abusing it status of being the chosen people. God will not tolerate corrupt behavior and abuse of the poor. That those who trust in wealth, houses, or fortifications, and not in God will be destroyed. This is a call for repentance! As Amos says throughout the book, this the day of the lord! All mankind has a choice this can be a time of blessing and restoration or a time of judgment it is up them. Judgment is
