The genre of the book of Judges is historical narrative. The theme of the book is; Gods unwavering compassion and faithfulness despite Israel sin and rejection of him and his laws. The key characters and events are as follows. In the beginning of the book we introduced to a man names Samson an Israelite warrior due to his sin and sexual immorality fell from Gods graces and lost his extraordinary God given strength. He is up against a foe to Israel the philistines with no way to defend Israel. Samson calls upon God, and repents and asks for help. God is faithful he delivers the Israelites from the philistines, but Samuel forfeits his life for this to occur. The second part of judges deals with Israel next generation forgetting about their convent with God and falling into a life of idolatry spiritual blindness and sin. There is a lack of leadership at this time in the Bible it is referred to as the time of no kings. People did as they saw fit. In his unwavering mercy God continues to fulfill his promises and brings about some great leaders, called the judges to lead Israel. The book of Judges set forth principals of biblical leadership. It also shows how God uses people with many flaws to carry out his work, graced by his sprit. Some examples are Gideon a non important week man who became a warrior of God against false gods. Also Deborah a woman who through faith helps lead Gods people into a successful battle. This was an extraordinary feet for a woman during this time in history.
