The First book of Chronicles


The genre of this book is historical narrative. The book was written by Ezra. The key theme of this book is; the significance of Gods promises to David. David wanted to build a house for God but, God said he would build a house for David. This is telling us that from the lineage of David, the perfect king and savior will come into the world and establish an eternal kingdom. The covenant that god made with the people of Israel will be fulfilled. The book of first chronicles tells of the history of Israel from the beginning. Chronicles was linking the chosen people to their past, in a way that provided meaning to the present. The book of chronicles repeats many times over that the hardship that Israel has faced is due to their own sin and unfaithfulness. This book contains King David plans for the temple. It also tells how the Israelites can restore their relationship and covenant to God. In the prayer King Solomon says at the dedication of the temple. This reminds the people through prayer, humility and repentance will come healing to the nation of Israel. This book also contains the genealogies of the Israelites to remind them of Gods plan for them and that he has kept his promises. This book repeats some of Israelis past, to provide significance to the new generations. God is giving the Israelites another chance at restoring a relationship with him.

The second book of Chronicles

The genre of this book is a historical narrative. The theme of this book is; to provide hope to the Israelites, who future seems uncertain. The key characters and the events in this book are as follows. The writer reminds Israelites of the reins of King David and Solomon. It talks about the building of the temple and providing for the priest. It gives great attention to the administrative, geopolitical and military affairs in the history of Israel. It reminds the people of Israel that God rewards people who keep his covenant with blessing and punishes unfaithfulness. It is a reminder to the descendants of David, Gods promise for an everlasting kingdom. It is a testimony of how God directed people and events to fulfill his purpose in history. The new generations of Israel can see that through time God has kept his covenant with his chosen people. That even if things look bleak for the children of Israel, that have no kingdom or no king descended from David. God is a keeper of promises. This book is a very important book to Israel because it is a record of the traditions, and the very essence of who they are as a people. It is a documentation of two of the key characters in Jewish history David and Solomon.
