The Genre of the book is gospel historical narrative and teaching text. The key theme is; the book of Matthew presents Jesus as the Messiah the king of Iseral and savior of the entire world. That through Jesus the Old Testament promises are fulfilled. The key theme and characters are as follows. The Gospel of Mathew is written during the begging of Christianity. How would these Jewish Christians live and fit into a culture that was fully committed to the laws in the torah.  This book answers how a Christian Jew, follows Jesus, and still declare the good news of the  kingdom to Jews and non-Jews alike, while remaining firm to their commitment to the Jewish community. This is a book is of Gods unfolding kingdom, and how the world fits into it. This book introduces us to the God man Jesus.  This book tells of Jesus life from birth to after his death. We hear of his crucifixion when he opposed Jewish leaders, and his resurrection. This book tells of the salvation of all mankind through Jesus.  This book traces Jesus genealogy to prove that he is the rightful heir of King David throne thus fulfilling the prophecy given to Abraham long ago. We are introduced to Mary the mother of Jesus a virgin that would have to trust God that her pregnancy was of him and risk her very life. We would meet Joseph, Jesus earthly father that would take this child as his own and trust in the lord. We are introduced in Jesus genealogy, women of much stained reputations that were worthless in other site and were redeemed by God’s gracious acts in the heritage of Jesus. We learn of King Herod that heard of Jesus being referred to as the future king and launched a plot to kill him. He ordered all male boys two years and younger to be killed. We learn of the Pharisees who meticulous observance of the Mosaic Law draws them away from the one thing they are seeking God.  Jesus accuses them of hypocrisy for elevating human rules over God’s standards.  This book gives us many of the teaching of Jesus during his ministry. Jesus gives us the beatitudes that show God favor towards his people. We learn of a tax collector named Mathew that left everything behind to follow Jesus. We are introduced to the personal agent of evil Satan. We learn of Jesus disciples Simon and Peter that will become the spokesmen for the early Christian church. We hear of a little boy that gives his lunch to Jesus and Jesus feeds five thousand. This is a book of the redemption of all mankind.
