The Genre of the book of mark is a gospel historical narrative. The key theme is; to let everyone know that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah the son of God!   Jesus death and resurrection are the key themes of this book. The key characters and events are as follows. The book of Mathew gives us an account of the final period of Jesus ministry his suffering, death, and resurrection. This is a book to let the world know that Jesus is the son of God and the redeemer of all mankind. The book of Mark takes the oral teachings of Peter about Jesus life and writes them down. This is a book of Jesus’ healing, exorcism, raising of the dead and teachings. The book starts in Galilee and ends in Jerusalem. Jesus ministry starts off with his baptism and ends with his death and resurrection. This book has the first account of the disciples acknowledging their belief that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus told of his death and resurrection in the book of Mark. It also tells that that Jesus death is willed by God, and that his death had to be, it was a ransom for many. That Jesus death paid the debt for the sin of all mankind. We learn the person of Christ in this book. The book also talks about Christian discipleship and the importance of denying one self and following Jesus. To follow him it means to believe in him with your whole heart and be willing to die for the cause of serving him.  This is a book to announce that God’s kingdom has arrived that people need to repent, believe to have eternal fellowship with God.
