A old fashion way to entertain children
Crystal palace
1/2 cup  of water
1/4 cup of epsom salts
1 sponge
Shallow bowl

boil the water in a pan. remove it from the heat, pour in the epsom salts, and stir untill they're completely dissolved. Put the sponge in the bottom of the bowl, and pour the Epsom salts solution over it. Put the bowl in a sunny spot, and keep a close watch on it. As the water evaproates, crystals will form all over the sponge, forming what looks like a minature ice palace.
