CHOCOLATETOWN SPECIAL CAKE
  • 1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups unsifted all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups buttermilk
Stir together cocoa and boiling water in small bowl until smooth; set aside.
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Blend in cocoa mixture.
Pour into three greased and flour 8" or two 9" layer pans. (I used a 13x9 and it made a very full cake!) Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.
CREAMY ICING
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 TBSP water
  • 2 1/3 cups icing sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 TBSP cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Boil the sugar and water together for 1 minute. Mix together the icing sugar, salt and egg, then blend it with the first mixture. Add the shortening, cocoa and vanilla. Beat until creamy.
